I believe from family lore that a Great Uncle of mine was killed in WW1 on board HMS Hampshire which was mined and lost on June 5 1916 north of the Orkneys , he was b. 1899 in Peckham , London and named Thomas Edward BARGEN.
Lord Kitchener was also lost in this sinking en route to Russia .
Where are war deaths reported in detail ? , there is no civil registration of his death and I would like to confirm if this person is indeed a relative by checking his next of Kin shown on his service record.
He is ;
A casualty listed on HMS Hampshire and shown as Thomas E. BARGEN
serving as a Boy Seaman , First Class . Service number J38133
Any help and advice would be appreciated,
Thanks.
Roy

You could try the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (http://www.cwgc.org/) website to see if he is listed.

You won't find his death in with the normal civil index of deaths. His will be included in the RN War Deaths - Navy All Ranks Indices - 1914-1921.
This is available on pay-per-view sites such as findmypast. If you search the index, you will see him included:
BARGEN, Thomas E - Boy 1 - Hampshire 1916 RN.181
You can pay a small fee to download his service record from TNA's document online (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/details-result.asp?Edoc_Id=7156082&queryType=1&resultcount=1)
Standard RN service records from this period will not include next-of-kin
As Jan has suggested, look at CWGC (http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=2875577) - and you'll see mention of his next-of-kin

You can also obtain a death certificate but I wouldn't bother - it won't contain any information of value that you don't already know.

The CWGC site shows that he was "Son of the late John and Ann Bargen, of Hoxton, London" and also that he was 17.

Thank you for the response and particularly the WGC showing the parents. They are indeed the parent names of our Family member Tommy.
I appreciate all the help
