Hi

I have a Edmund/Edward BILLS (b1876) who died in 1922

All of the records I have read (poor relief and GRO Death entry) say that he was single (I can find no record of him marrying in Scotland)

I can find no record of any children of his yet the informant of his death was noted as being James BILLS son.

He did go "hawking in the countryside" to support himself but apart from that and a short spell in Dumfries and Galloway (no births recorded there with the surname of BILLS) he lived in and around Govan/Gorbals area of Glasgow and was in and out of hospitals their.

Does anyone have any suggestions of where else I could look.

James was a family name so it could be a case of mistaken identity and it was actually a nephew. Did that ever happen?

Thanks for any help

It's possible that the birth if he is a son was registered with the Mother's name but he was known by his Father's-that is not an uncommon situation.
It also could be a mistake. Did he sign or was it a cross?

I hadn't thought that he may have been registered under his mother's name but using his father's thanks for that.

He signed the register of deaths Jas BILLS Son

Thanks blue eyes. Yep that is the same man, they are the only BILLS family in Glasgow so they are quite easy to track.
