My great grandfather Ernest James mellett b. 1880. Parents James Mellett and Emma Blamphin, listed on marriage certificate in 1880 as 24 and 22 years old respectively. Cannot find any births for these two. James father listed as William (Deceased) and Emma's father Thomas Blamphin. When they married they were living in Lambeth.

On 1881 census Emma is living in Brighton. I think I have found James lodging in Lambeth (just around the corner from where they lived when they married) and listed as being married but no wife present. Not sure how to clarify that this is the correct james. Their son Ernest was by this point living with maternal grandparents.

Any help would be appreciated .

Found this birth Ernest James Mellet Q3 1880 Lambeth . volume 1d page 351.
Will look for Emma and see what I can find.

Oops !!! I take it it's the grandparents we're looking for.
Must put my glasses on.
Does the 1881 census say where they were born ?
