My father has traced our family back to William Comstock, born 1569 in London. His son William Comstock, born 1595 was born in Culmstock, Devonshire. I am looking for any information about the Comstock family that lived in Culmstock. The name may have been spelled Culmstock.

I too am searching for the COMSTOCKs of England. Mine came to the US sometime around the 1840s or 1860s...I'd have to look that up, too many people and dates to keep in my head:)
My great, great, great gradmother was CHARLOTTE COMSTOCK of ENGLAND. That's all the Mass. US census says. Her daughter was ELENA COMSTOCK who later married a BOURNE here in the States and somehow they ended up in [B]Vienna Maine.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can go about tracing her back to England? All is welcome as so far, I'm at an end. Thanks, Lisa

Ah, but which census (year)? How old was she then? Are there any other Comstocks in the same, or earlier American Census returns, who were born in England and hopefully living near to Charlotte, who may be related?

This is the only CHARLOTTE COMSTOCK to appear in the US (Mass>) Census with a daughter named ELENA (My great-gradmother's mother's name) who was in Mass and ended in the town of Vienna Maine. ELENA married a BOURNE

Forgive me, the layout of these American Census returns doesn't make an enormous amount of sense to me................do I interpret the census you have found to basically mean the following:
1880 census
Vienna, Kennebec, Maine
Adin COMSTOCK, head of the family, aged 51, born in Massachusetts
his wife
Charlotte Comstock, aged 38, born in England
Ethel Comstock, daughter, aged 6 born Massachusetts
Elena Comstock, daughter, aged 3, born Massachusetts
Charles Comstock, son, aged 1, born Massachusetts
I am assuming that the first place mentioned on each line if where the person was born, the second place is where the father was born and the third place mentioned is where the mother was born.
If so, the children were born in america, the father was born in america, My initial thoughts would be that the couple married in america. That being the case, you would ned to know Charlotte's maiden name as a first step to begin your search for her origins in England. Have you located any record of the marriage? Is there an obituary for Charlotte when she popped her clogs and if so, does this say where she originated?
I think you also need to find Adin in any earlier american records to try and establish his parentage and if it was they who emigrated, or an earlier generation.
