Looking for any information on the Coultharts who belonged to this village in the early/mid 1800's - John a farmer married Mary Brown who re-married ?Davidson before the marriage of her son John, a Land Mineral Agent's Clerk to Margaret Murchie in Glasgow Scotland in 1866 - John & Margaret then disappeared into Outer Space! - Any assistance would be most welcome.

Happy New Year to All

I wonder if you mean Cutthorpe ? There is a village of this name almost due east of Chesterfield on the way to Baslow. So far as I am aware it was never a parish in its own right (although it has a beautiful old Manor House) and suggest you try the registers for either Barlow, which was a Chapelry of Dronfield, or Old Brampton.

I hope this helps - :D - Eileen

Eileen,

I have no doubt you have the correct name - the writing in the marriage entry was unclear and as there seemed to be no cross on the 't' so I went for Culthorp rather than Cuthorp - there was no 'e' at the end but that may have been added later.

Many thanks

Duncan

A Happy New Year to you and yours from Scotland
