I am trying to find out something about my great grandfather James William Rickson. He was born in Reading in c1818 and moved to Sussex and married my great grandmother Louisa Hobbs. His fathers name was William Rickson. I know about James from his marriage onwards but before is sketchy. Anyone know anything about William or James from Reading. Any information gratefully received.

Diane,
I have found James in 1871 already living in Sussex (suggests he was born 1822). I assume that he must have moved prior to 1851 as he doesn't appear on the census, in fact there is no trace of any Ricksons in the 1851 Berkshire CD. I've had a look at the only derivations (that I can see) - Rixon, Rixson and Rixton, but can't find a William or James born in Reading.
Sorry
Harry

Hi Diane
I am new at this and don't know if my message was sent.
We also are looking for a James and William Rickson and hope that we can connect with yours.
Our William emigrated from England to Briarwood Illinois and on to Canada. We think his father was James. As he married in 1868 at age 38 we feel Esther Bradbury (born Dec. 3, 2843 in Ashton Town) is his second wife (?) William was born in Oldham, Lancashire.
Would love to hear from you. Thanks for any info you have.
Carol
