My family Bible states that John Howells had a son called Gwillim Howells, born on May 6 1879. Gwillim is only found living with his grandparents (1881 & 1891) and never with his father. He seems to be a Gunner in the Carmarthen Artillery, resident in a hotel in Cardiganshire in 1901 but after that I have no idea.

I have tried to find his birth record but not yet successful (it would probably be registered in Haverfordwest). One census has his birthplace as New Inn which is in Morvil (but appears to be a single address). I have looked in the village for potential mothers (called Gwillim/William, perhaps) but not sure about any of them.

John is far away being a coalminer in the Rhondda when his son is two years old, having left him with his parents.

I would like to find out who Gwillim's mother is and what happened to him. Any suggestions? I can't access parish records for the area from across the Atlantic. |help|

Right year but wrong district. The registration quarter is also rather out... :o

However, have you considered this:

Thankyou for trying... it led me all over south Wales through time and got me nowhere! In conclusion I can't prove one way or the other that it is or isn't he and now it's led me to track his uncle and he's proving elusive too.

Back to the drawing board...
