Hello
I'm researching an ancestor of mine, John Meyricke Stother, who was a Commander in the Royal Navy in the early 19th Century.

On 13 July 1801, according to the Navy Lists, John entered the Royal Navy. He was made Lieutenant on 9 November 1808 and retired on 27 Jan 1846 as a Commander.

I was wondering if anyone knew the best way to find out anything about his service. For example, where he might have served and on which ships. I am based in New York, so don't have easy access to any British based records and was hoping someone could help with advice or information.

I'd really appreciate any help
many thanks
Tim

This research guide provides details of what's available and how to approach research.

You'll probably have to get someone to do the research for you.
