I'm new to English records (and to forums!) and wonder if anyone has access to the Old Parish Records (15 August 1795) for Stoke Damerel. I'm looking for any further details of a christening of Louisa LAYE, daughter of Francis & Sarah Laye.

This may not be exactly what you are looking for, Sara, but the Devon FHS publish books of baptisms, marriages and deaths. They don't go back quite as far as you want for baptisms. But I thought you might be interested, as you say you are new to English records. They are available quite cheaply.

Sara, my name is Pat from the USA. Are you related to the Layes? Possibility you may be interested in Louisa's marriage. I have a very old document- a short pedigree- that lists Louisa and her marriage, husband, location etc. It also lists her family- mine.

Pat, it's a real thrill to read your reply --- a breakthrough for me. It'll take me a little time to read through the material on the website, but John Tower and Louisa Laye were my 3Xgreat-grandparents. I had found Louisa Laye in the IGI and also had a hand-drawn family tree referring to her father as "Gen Laye", but given the distance involved, wondered if I'd got the wrong lady.
