My Greatgrandmother, Hannah Kemp, was born 17th. April 1848 at 93, Oldham Rd., Manchester.
I have tried, using 2 researchers, to get entries on the 1851 census for this family. On both occaisions I have been told that these pages are lost.
Has anyone any suggestion as to how I can pursue the family.
Her parents were John and Mary ( nee Cox).
I suspect that they were John Kemp and Mary Cox married 7th.June 1835 at Duffield in Derbyshire. From a local directory there was a John Kemp carrying goods between Duffield and Manchester.
Hannah married in Sheffield in 1867.
Any help would be appreciated. Roy

I am not sure what you mean by"lost". Much of the 1851 Census returns for Manchester are unreadable and some of it was so bad that the powers that be didn't even to bother filming it.The reasons of course is that the returns were water damaged after enemy action during WW II. M&LFHC produced some fiche of the water damage returns using UV (I think).Anyhow I can take a butchers and see if I can shed any light on the subject...probably next week.

Hi There,

I was able to find the address that you were looking for but sadly I could not see any KEMPs.
HO 107 2229 folio 494
Ecclesiastical District of Cathedral & Collegiate Church

The M&LFHS have produced a surname index for the 1851.This district (Market St Area) has 7 entries for KEMP listed at folios 020,476,477,557,564,590 & 696.I did not have time to check this out, so maybe sks will be able to help you.
