I an looking for details of a James Jagoe who was, we believe, serving in the RN in Ireland up to about 1870. He then left Ireland and records we have show he was in the coastguard service from 1870 to about 1882. This service was mainly in England. I am interested in finding out his record before he joined the coastguard and where he was when he was in Ireland. He was born in Cork in 1841 and married in Queenstown in 1869. So maybe he was around that area.
I would be grateful for any help as we have hit a brick wall!

Many thanks

Hi Annie
It is possible to download Seamen's Records from the National Archives Documents on Line. There is the following chap listed:
James Jago Service No. 78658, Born Cork 9 April 1841 Ref ADM 188/69 (it's on the second page). The cost to download is £3.50 I think.

Many thanks Peter.
As it happens I am going to the National Archives tomorrow so will try my luck there. Thought I had tried that path as while ago with no luck but obviously missed it some how.
