The Royal Standard of England

In his 1933 diary my grandfather Charles Edwin Rutter (d. 1936 age 65) refers to visiting The Royal Standard of England in Beaconsfield with his wife and kids to visit "Allison", on April 9, 1933. Does anyone have any idea who Allison was? Stupid question? She may have been related to management. It's only 71 years ago! Maybe some of the "senior" members.......?

Thanks for the thought. The whole of the 1933 entry reads as follows:

9 Sun - Palm Sunday - First day of summer "K & I, Douglas, Hilda, Arthur and Sammy to Gerrards X [Rose], The Royal Standard of England [Allison] & Sunbury [Lizzie]"

"K" is Katie, his wife. He lived in Ealing at the time I think at 6 Lancing Road, but had a car, having moved, I am told, from a big house on Ealing Common.

I know who Lizzie is. She died in 1963 at Sunbury owning a house on the Thames. I think that 'Rose' was a descendant of the Pullin family from Hillingdon.

My gut feeling, from reading the little that is available, is that if he were referring to a man he would have put the first name in.

I've looked for an email address for The Royal Standard of England, but haven't found any.

Could be worth a visit! It's just an airplane ticket away! Maybe in the spring when the daffodils are out. I could sit and die at the bar, asking incoming patrons if they knew Allison.
