Hi all,

does anyone know what it means when on the death certificate it states that the death was not certified?
I have several death certs which all have the cause of death followed by certified, however this one does not?
It simply states "not certified"

any ideas?

Paul

What time frame is it? My imagination thinks that in war time if a body couldn't be positively identified, therefore it wouldn't be certified. Or else the death notification was verbally informed but the body missing. What was the cause of death?

It simply means that a doctor hasn't certified it. It was more common in the early days of civil registration but still legally possible, although rare, today.

Hi all,

in hindsight I should have put the date on, it was 1857, cause of death

"Disease of the liver 10 years"

Barbara Dixon's site
http://home.clara.net/dixons/Certificates/indexbd.htm
contains a lot of useful information about certificates. She is or was a registrar herself!

It is as Peter mentioned simply that the medical certificate showing cause of death has not been given to the registrar within the required 5 days of the death.
