Ah! but the punctuation is correct so it makes it much easier.
Remove the spaces, capital letters and full stops and we would have more of a problem.:) Wdknotnowrethebgingorefniswass.

You are right Mutley it takes a little longer to read without punctuation etc. Shall we tell the bods at Cambridge to get smart?

Given the recent discussion about the use of capital letters in posts, poor grammer etc and the ensuing debate I am not sure that this will be appreciated universally:D Or is it me just feeling a little sensitive today?

Hi Melsibob
I am the first to be embarrassed by those who try to put others down and can never justify the necessity for it so I can see where you are coming from with this.(Rather late in the piece)
Do you think I should ask one of the moderators to delete this thread or hope that this explanation will tell folks that I am cringing in a corner wishing I had put my brain in to gear before posting? I really wasn't looking to be a smart alec, it's not my thing.:o

I thought it was funny, interesting and actually quite amazing that I could read it easily.
I have no intention of deleting the thread as I think Christanel must have been as fascinated as I was, it actually proves that you can read it as a whole without studying each word. Maybe another mod will think different.
We are all entitled to our opinions.
If anyone should take the flack, then maybe we send emails to Cambridge...

Don't worry about it! This has been posted on the forum before somewhere (I haven't had time to search for it) and I am sure people will take it in the spirit that it was intended. :)

For a good part of my teaching career I was involved with children with reading and writing difficulties so I became well used to such presentations. Not every word as this is, I hasten to add, just the odd one here and there, and bless them, they did try, and I hope I made a difference.
I must confess to my own difficulty with the town NEWARK which is a pity as a large branch of my family are from the area. No matter how hard I concentrate it comes out as NEWRAK. (It just did and I corrected it).

Are you a trained typist? I'm not, but have learned to type on the computer keyboard fairly quickly using two fingers. It's interesting that you have NEWRAK problems as I often type CRADIFF, and yet A and R are not adjacent on the keyboard. Another word that I can write easily but never seem to be able to type first time is January (just had to correct that one as well :D)

Glenys is right, this can be traced back to at least 2005 (see Typoglycemia on General Chatter).
And it's not just place names either. I hope our Actor Searcher won't think me too forward if I say that I always see her as Ladykis |blush|

Ditto! :o I have had to re-write it several times, but after several years I have got it into my mind at last that it is Ladkyis. ;)

Oh dear I didn't mean to upset the apple cart - I have actually seen this or at least something similar before and I find the whole subject fascinating. My son is severely dyslexic so I do appreciate the situation. I guess this is a classic stuation where the intention is lost/misread in the written word that would have easily been seen to be a light hearted comment if heard. Sorry if I've put my foot in it that wasn't my intention - I was merely making an observation - guess I'll stick to my family tree and keep my opinions to myself in future|oopsredfa

Possibly! :D
I have a paperweight on which is written "Give me coffee and nobody gets hurt". One member of staff brings me a mug of the stuff every time he makes one for himself. (Wise man...)

OK, next Christmas ask for the matching one: "When I want your opinion, I'll give it to you"

I knew there was a reason I posted "for smart people only' - to instigate another round of quirky repartee. Thanks everyone.
I too taught children with mild to severe learning difficulties and it was such a rewarding experience. A sense of humour was a necessity and one of these days I will write a book about the situations I sometimes found myself in. But first I have to write the one about my loooooong married life titled "I Was Only An Innocent Bystander."

No Sue - I am not a trained typist, I learned to 'peck' with two fingers on an ancient portable typewriter very many years ago when part of my job at that time was to type exam. questions on Gestetner 'skins', and then transferred this somewhat dubious skill to a computer keyboard about twenty five years ago; said computer worked from a tape recorder !!! I often have problems with THE which comes out as TEH, and THAT which comes out as TAHT, but only on the keyboard. I can get NEWARK wrong if I write it

'Gestetner 'skins'
Eileen
You had to be quite good to type on those things. They could only be corrected by using a horrible pink nail varnish stuff which had to be painted over the letters and then you carefully hit the correct keys hard. Difficult to edit a word, impossible to remove a word or to change a sentence.:)
