My g grandfather ran a pub called The Plough around 1915-ish. His name was Edwin Osgood. It was a Whitbread pub. Whitbread distributed their archives about 3 years ago and are not available on line yet. I can't find the pub with Edwin as Landlord in any of the directories available on line. Does anyone have the facility and the time to check these details for me with their available sources? The only other clue I have is Brooklands Farm - this might be a red herring. IUn advance - thank you for taking the time to help. Heidi

Hello Heidi
The Plough sounds so familiar but i suppose there were a lot of them and Brooklands was somewhere that when i was at school they took you there for the weekend and i cant remeber if i went or not ! ( well i am 42 now !) I think i remember a Plough in Bulphan if so Thurrock Council may be able to help you or point you in the right direction. I will phone a friend and ask about Brooklands and if you do call Thurrock Council and have no luck i will see what my sister in law can find out as she works there ! There must be licensing Laws registered with them or someone - providing they had licensing laws then - im sure you dont have to wait for Whitbreads archives.
Were your Osgoods from Essex ?
Assuming you havent got any further than this post !( although im sure you have)

Hello Heidi,
There was a pub called The Plough in Bradfield, but I don't know if it's still there. The Essex Pubs Site has a listing for every publican right up until 1912 - just short of your target year of 1915!

The other news is that Bradfield is only about 3.5 miles (5.7 Km) SE of Brantham, where a Brooklands Farm once operated. The site of Brooklands Farm was sold off to a manufacturing company in 1887. The new owners set about building a new factory and a residential village for its employees.

Hope this helps
