I have a copy of James Sealy Gambold birth certificate, and can supply you with information about the Gambold family. I don't know how much you know about that line.
James was born 30 August 1877 in the Union Workhouse, Haverfordwest to Martha Gambold an unmarried domestic servant. Martha had 3 / 4 children. She is reputed to have had 2 James Sealys!, but so far I have only found one. Eliza A was born about 1871 and Richard about 1875.
Martha was (I am 90% certain) illegitimate herself. The difficulty here is that there were 3 Martha Gambolds born about the same time (1840-1845), two of whom were illegitimate and I lose track of two of them after the 1861 census.
If you would like more information I can send you more off line.
regards
Megan

Hi Megan,
Thank you so much.
Any information would be great and any documents as it would really help me.
May I ask how you know this, are you a member of the Gambold family?
I have private messaged you with my email.
Thank you

As you are looking at the early part of the 20th century, I have a reference to the death of a John Herbert Gambold killed in action in the Dardanelles 6th Aug 1915. He is cormemorated in Prendergast church and on his parents headstone in The Cemetery Back Lane Predergast Haverfordwest.
I have taken pictures of both, which are part of my Database of Military Memorials of Pembrokeshire 1745 - 2006 (ongoing project).
Of course you may be the person who contacted me some years ago about this same person, if not contact me via private msge with your email address and I will send you a copy of the headstone if you wish.

Further to the pictures I have of the above. In my continued research into Family Military Headstones of Pembrokeshire now covering the years 1722 to 2006, some 2,250 in total, I have come across a non military reference to a William Gambold 1672 to 1728 who matriculated at St Mary's Hall Oxford in 1693. As early as 1707 William was planning a welsh dictionary and finished in 1722.
Remembering what I had seen on this Forum I have photographed the plaque and will supply to anyone who wishes a copy along with of course photos of John H. Gambold of 1915 and his parents headstone.
I have no relationship to the Gambolds of Pembrokeshire

During my military headstone research 1722 to 2006 I have come across a reference to a James Gambold this time of Hayscastle who was serving in the Middle East and taking a great interest in the Holy City. He was to witness the death of one of his officers.
If anyone is interested in this research please let me know and I can supply a copy.

Dear Listers,
Whilst out researching today, came across the grave of Thomas Gambold at West Hook. He is shown as a member of the London & Cardiff Phrenological Institute and of New Farm in the parish of St Dogwells.
The word "Phrenological" is new to me, but appears to be the study of the external shape of a person's skull as a supposed indication of his character and abilities.
This Thomas appears to be the son of William & Elizabeth Gambold the farmer of Rudbaxton circa 1881.
Rudbaxton lies sort of midway between Puncheston and Prendergast H'west, so could be related to either Gambold family of these villages or even perhaps help tie the two area's together into one Gambold family.
If anyone wishes for a copy of the jpeg of the headstone please just contact me and I will send it to you.
