Firstly I got these records of Ancestry WW1 records.
My great grandmother's first husband was called George Samuel Hart of 10 Grays Inn Buildings, Holborn in London where my ggran was living in December 1915 when George was attested to be a Gunner of the Royal Garrison Artillery.
He died in July 1917 in Iraq of dysentry. The most interesting thing is that Catherine moved back to her parents home at 99 Kings Road, Camden Town, London and as of the 27 Feb 1918 was awarded a widows pension of 22 shillings and 11 pence a week for the upkeep of her child.
The Royal Garrison Artillery HQ in Dover posted his medals to Catherine in July 1920, but by then she had remarried my great grandfather and moved up North. Catherines mum Kate Coombs at 99 Kings Road, London, NW1 said that Catherine had moved to 16 Arnold Street, West Auckland, Co Durham, which was 2 months after my nanny Connie was born. G S Hart's medals were then redirected to that address 250 miles north of London.
It is amazing how much you can learn about a widow of a soldier who died in the forces from these records.
