Hello everyone, I'm the "New Girl " on the block. Serching for anyone of the surnames above.

This is my info.
Alice Bartolotto/Bartalotti/Battalott came to South Wales UK from Malta. around 1920 with Charles Henry Bishop of Wales. died age 69yrs. 14-06-1961.

The problem arose when I bought Alice Bishops Death Cert. died aged 45 dec qtr 1952 vol 8c pq 254. I simply can't discover her maiden name. Or the correct spelling of it.
I ventured to the cemetary in Newport and found the shared grave of both. Alice and Charles Bishop Plus another Alice (Jones born 1868) presumed to be Alice' Bishops mother.

Alice Jones age 78yrs. d.23rd Dec 1946. Still no maiden name.

On each document supporting death, and Alice Bishops daughter (Angelina birth cert ) still the wrangle goes on. A shortened version of the Maltese surname (Battalott was printed on Angelinas short birth cert purchased by the family)

I purchase a full birth cert of Angelina and found the maiden name of her mother spelt Baltallot .However, suggestions by other groups are the names offered in the hope someone can plough through this maze I'm in.

Charles Bishop was in the Merchant Navy. So, it maybe they married in Malta.? I can't find any reference to these people at all. Can you?

I would be so grateful.

Hello Franpow and welcome to the forum.

Have you seen this site: http://www.maltafamilyhistory.com/ It may provide a starting point.

Spellings of names changed over the years, especially if written by a hand that wasn't familiar with the correct spelling. You will see the different permutations of forum members' names that appear on the boards here.

If Charles Bishop was in the Merchant Navy when they married, then it may be possible that the marriage is registered in Naval records rather than public ones. I'm sure that one of the Navy experts will be able to tell you if this was possible.

Good luck with your search.
