Hi all,
I've just joined today, after having a lovely chat with one of your ladies at the family History Fair in London last saturday.
My name's Isobel and I'm currently living in Hampshire but always hopeful of finding my way back north. Yes, I'm a northern girl - born in the East Riding of Yorkshire, father from Tynside and mother from Lancashire. I started researching my family tree when I was 17, when I first moved down to London. Seemed like a good idea for a hobby to keep me amused for a few months - Ha Ha. 30 something years later, and I'm still doing it, although I had to put it aside for a few years in the middle while I raised a family. Now I'm back and hot on the trail, and been doing it seriously for the last 7 years. My father's ancestors are very obliging. They tended towards small villages (much easier to find) and prior to Tyneside they were from Westmorland. Mother's side are giving me a headache. They preferred cities - Hull and Manchester and they are proving quite elusive. Never mind, I've developed a skill for lateral thinking and it's surprising how often that works.
Hope to chat with some of you on the different message boards.
Isobel
