William MOORE b.c1838 Dumfries & Isabella MILLAR b1841 are my 2 times great grandparents.

William’s parents were William MOORE and Mary GRIERSON. From Census entries they were both born in Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland, William about 1811 and Mary about 1812. William’s parents were William MOORE and Elizabeth WEYMES. William MOORE & Mary GRIERSON moved to Dumfries and had at least 4 children,

Isabella MILLAR’s parents were Andrew MILLAR and Helen Grierson KIRKPATRICK who married in 1837 in Keir, Dumfrieshire (see separate posting about the KIRKPATRICKs of Keir).

William MOORE born was about 1838 in Dumfries and died in 1875. William first married Agnes LAMBERT in 1861 in Urr, Kirkcudbrightshire. They had a son Thomas born 1862 in Dumfries. Agnes died on the 12th August 1862. William then married Isabella MILLAR in 1864 in Dumfries. Isabella MILLAR can be found in the 1891 Census in Dumfries. Isabella died on 6th Feb, 1900. I am descended from their daughter, Helen Millar MOORE, born 1865 who married William Henry McQUEEN in 1888. The family moved to Moffat about 1894 where my grandmother Helen Moore McQUEEN was born in 1894. Another daughter of William & Isabella, Isabella MOORE born 1869 in Dumfries had an illegitimate child, Lena MOORE born 1886 in Dumfries. Isabella married John THOMSON and was in South Leith, near Edinburgh in 1901.

William MOORE’s siblings were,

1. Thomas MOORE born abt 1836 in Maxweltown, Troqueer, Kirkcudbrightshire (now part of Dumfries Town). Thomas married Mary KERR in 1853, Dumfries. (Mary was previously married to Francis GALLOWAY and had 1 child, Jane born 1853). Thomas and Mary had at least 7 children, including Josephene MOORE who also married twice.

2. Joseph MOORE born about 1841 Dumfries.

3. Mary MOORE born abt 1851 Dumfries. Mary married John WELSH about 1875. They were living in Dumfries with 3 children in 1881.
