Here is a picture of an ancestor obviously serving in the armed forces of some kind. He is Arthur Edward Collins, born in Cardiff on the 21/08/1902, so I'm guessing this might be WWII? We don't know anything about him, but wondered whether it was possible to tell anything from his uniform? Nothing looks very obvious!

Oh dear, that means I've posted it in the wrong forum - is there any way to move it?

Moved to RAF forum for you. If it turns out to need moving again, let us know.

I'm hoping someone else more knowledgeable than me, will be able to add to this thread! Its tricky though, I don't think he had any rank, there are no stripes on his sleeves, so theres not a lot to go on.

If WW11 RAF pilot he would have stripes both sleeves and wings over his left top front pocket. My uncle was RAF pilot and I have a pic that I compared it to. Could be a military transport driver though.

Hi Don't know if you are still searching but I can tell you that your ancestor was an AC1 or 2 - impossible to tell from the uniform but basically one started off as an AC2(Aircraftman2) and the next step up was AC1 Yvonne (ex WRAF)
