I have just finished blowing my certificate budget for this month by ordering 7 - 2 more than I allow myself each month. :o I have 2 still to come and my order pile is around 50. By the time I get to the bottom of the pile I will have found more to order. I have decided to flip the pile so that I will get the oldest ones first. - But I didn't do that today. I haven't received many wrong ones and I have got some that I still question to be right. Guess who's getting richer and me poorer?|nopity|

Now THAT would truly be funny|jumphappy My family has dwindled so much I think I had 3 this last Xmas! They have the nerve to keep dying!

Likewise if you have any ancestors in Sheffield. I'm going to be a regular down there!
I have spent a small fortune on certs recently, they must love me!

I don't mind spending money on certificates (Well, Yes I do really, but sometimes it can't be avoided), but what really irks me is to -
* order 10 certificates online
* get 6 in the mail all at once
* the next day get an email from the GRO that "Birth certificate : Emily Thould 1838 Mar 01 65. We have not produced a certificate as there is no trace of the above mentioned person at the reference you quoted." so they are refunding 4 pounds.
* wait a week worrying about the fate of the other 3, then when they finally show up - one is the wrong person after all ! |banghead|

BTW - if anyone has access to the GRO scans and can take a look at March quarter 1838 births - for THOULD. It is a typed page, so it has been redone at some point, but it clearly shows Emily THOULD - St. Giles St. Geo - 1 - 65 .

She is out of alphabetical order, which bothered me at the time I ordered & also it has 2 districts - but per Free BMD - district was "Created : 1.7.1837 (sometimes "St. Giles & St. George" in early listings)".

What should I do next ?

It clearly shows Emily Thould Mar vol 1 p 65 St.Giles, London, Middlesex but it is not on the typed page! I looked at all variations of the spelling and for/after that page but could not see it. Have you contacted A" regarding the mis - information? I will keep hunting for you. 'Tis the first time I've really run across this type of thing:confused:

Have you found her in the Batch files at IGI? the source files will tell you where the transcript is located.

I checked IGI - nothing and also FMP - they have the same list so I would email GRO with acopy of the page and tell them to find it! Obviously something is missing after Thorringtion and the Thre sections. The person may not have looked at the original indexes they have or they would have discovered the discrepancey. They shouldn't be charging you money for their own mistake.

That was sort of my opinion.

7 pounds spent for a cert. for the wrong person = shame on me.

3 pounds spent because I "in good faith" ordered a certificate from their *$#@ index, but it did not exist = shame on them !!!

Think I'll send them an email and ask. Will try to remember to report back to you.
