Hi, I am trying to trace the parents of Harry Edwin Belfield born 1879, West Macclesfield, Cheshire Cheshire East WMC / 45 / 9. There was a Harry Belfield on the 1881 census in Towcester, whose birthplace is given as Congleton abt 1880. I am guessing that these are probably the same person but am not sure. Does anyone know if Congleton in Cheshire would be given as West macclesfield on a birth certificate - the birth reg area for Congleton is now East Cheshire. I'm new at all this, so I hope I am making sense :)

Hello Homelymum and welcome to Brit-Gen |wave|

According to Genuki, Congleton is a registration district all on it's own - well, it was until April 1937. See here: http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/congleton.html

Have a rummage round the boards and post your Cheshire questions here: http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=76 Hopefully, the Cheshire folk will be able to point you in the right direction.

Good luck,

The best way to find out who his parents are is to order the certificate from Cheshire BMD, as you must have already looked there . To look for a baptism make take a while.
