I have been trying to find information on my "Lunds , Hanings and Dixons" in Settle , North Yorkshire for about 10 years... I had no luck. Recently I went to the BBC web site , I found this really wonderful community of people.. then some one sent me here. I love it...
Tracing my family history has been hard alone. I have had the help of a few good strangers. Thank god.. But what I have recently found for a good resource is this site called geo graph. It photo graphs each lat and long line section it has photos of each square mile in what ever town you post.. this is great if you have never laid eyes on a town .. say in spain .. or Settle england.. for a geneaologist.. this is awsome.. especially when you need to find a home that you think your family could have owned. It helped me. But another thig this site helps you do is to be alble to talk to a live person in the town you need to research.. (not to ) tell them to do your research.. But just ask questions.. like what is the weather like? Whats the oldest inhabited partof the town... Whats the main source of income.what is the earning trend now has it changed much over the years... . WHERE is the historical center and library... important as where is the bathroom when traveling .. lol , tracing a family is hard and you almost need a family to help you .. that is what I plan to accomplish here. is starting an on line family. Not many people understand how important your family genealogy is. The history .. and how my ancestors lived and worked means so mcuh to me .. I know that they are dead and I just want them to live on like in life for the rest of my decendants to enjoy... like they are gone but this is who they where. family history means so much to me and I have spent years researching it. thanks christine
