Hello lovely people!! |wave| I'm Gillian (aka Sirius) and am delighted to have found this forum where everyone seems to ready and willing to help...... good job too, since I need lots of it!
I've only been researching for a short while, but was very lucky to receive loads of information already obtained from other family members, so much of my work was done for me. I am still spending time trying to verify most of that information, since I'm the sort of person is never willing to take things blind or at face value! I'm glad I have to be honest, I've managed to raise one or two issues with the information that a few family researchers were accepting and are now having to reassess! I spend a while at Scotlands People and Ancestry, downloading everthing I could lay my hands on, I much prefer working with paper when trying to piece things together. The biggest problem I have found is the variations in spellings, either on the original records, or on the searchable listing/transcription. I dare say that's a big problem for a lot of members, so I guess I'm in good company ;)
All this said, I am still an absolute novice and will thank you all in advance for the help that I know you are bound to be giving me! I thought I saw a thread for posting family names being researched, but after posting this thread had a look and wonder if I'm losing my marbles!! Anyway, I'm looking for BALHARRY (and variations of the spelling Balharrie, Balhary, Beharie etc), Duthie and Illingworth. I'm concentrating on Balharry at the moment and this post will swiftly be followed by a plea for help in the appropriate thread, for a problem I can't resolve!
I look forward to talking to you soon!
best wishes and happy researching,
Gillian x
