Can anyone tell me anything about W J 'Sailor Bill' Partridge who came to Dawson in the Klondyke from Queensland Australia c 1898/99?
In particular, is there anything to connect him with William John Partridge who was born 9th September 1844 at 42 Upper Stamford Street, Lambeth? He was an ex-Sapper pensioner from the Royal Engineers when he is said to have gone to Australia in the late 1880s, but there was a suggestion that he was living in Canada c 1920. I am told that the Army authorities confirmed he was still in receipt of a pension but refused to divulge his address.
His wife had died in his absence in 1892 and there is no known record of him ever contacting his family again. And there appears to be no readily available means of finding out when his pension ceased. I've tried!
