I have just found my Husbands grandpops ww1 records on A.....y
Im getting confused with his army numbers, He appears to have a regiment number and a number prefixed by WR, What is this please???
Also is it possible for one man to have more than one army number?does it change if he moves to another regiment??

janeld - WR was a WW1 prefix used for some men in the Royal Engineers which I assume you have established as at least one of your man's units. WR refers to the waterways and railways section of the RE.

If you would like to post his number, I can tell you whether he was with the Inland Waterways Transport, or the Railway Operating Division.

Jane

He served with the Inland Waterways Transport. The IWT served in a number of theatres of war including the Western Front, Mesopotamia and Egypt. I do have a considerable information about the IWT on The Western Front and Mesopotamia, but nothing that will identify an individual which would require his service documents, if they still exist.
