I found the birth and census recoreds of my grandfather but I cant find his death . my father said he never knew him and was an only child but never said why|banghead| makes you wonder . if anyone can help His name was Alfred Robertson Gould born 1887 there were mentions of him in the 1901 census and of his marrage in 1914 thanks|help|

I know of another man who was about that age. He "poofed" down to South Africa, remarried (without ever divorcing the first) and had another family. Who knows, perhaps Alfred also had a wandering tendency.

When was your father born? That would give a starting point to work from. It may be useful to know where your father was born as well - again, it would give a place from which to begin searching.
For example, if your father was born in 1917, then it is possible that his father was a casualty of World War One.

Thank you mark , I was thinking that also but have yet been unable to find him but I am new to this so might not be looking in the right place or doing the right thing . My father was born in 1915 in swinton I think thats lancashire thank you for helping .

Have you actually systematically searched the GRO death indexes quarter by quarter covering every year until age 100 or so?
