|wave|Hi all,

Can someone tell me what is so damned interesting about this family history research thing? I've been hooked now for a couple of years reaching as far back as 1500 with one branch and I must put in at least two hours a day sat in front of the computer and the wife doesnt understand. I just find it so absorbing.

This is the first time I've participated in a forum of any kind so be gentle with me....lol

Anyway, down to business, I hail from Plymouth, Devon, completed 23 years in the Royal Navy, my father is from Ebbw Vale, S. Wales (hence my name Gareth Edwards), ex Navy man himself, and the main names I'm interested in are:

ABBOTT - mainly from Hackney/Bethnal Green/Tower Hamlets areas of London
ALFORD - Somerset i.e. Bedminster area and later E. London
BAKER - S. Wales, Monmouth and Lydbrook, Gloucestershire
COTT - again Hackney/Bethnal Green/Tower Hamlets areas of London
COX - Tipton/Sedgley/Dudley areas of Staffs
DAVIES - as COX above
DUNSTER - Hackney/Bethnal Green/Tower Hamlets areas of London again
EDWARDS - Monmouth/Tipton/Sedgley/Dudley areas of Staffs
ENGLAND - Padstow/St Columb, Cornwall. Later Hackney/Bethnal Green/Tower Hamlets areas of London again
JONES - S. Wales (that doesnt help, hee hee)
PERRY - Tipton/Sedgley/Dudley areas of Staffs
PIKE - Devon etc

Other names include:

CLEMOW - Cornwall
HOOPER - Plymouth, Devon
JEANE/S - Somerset
LIDDICOAT - St Columb, Cornwall
PENTECOST - Bucks
SCABERIO - Cornwall
WILMOTT - Bristol

I've done most of my research of over 1100 names in my tree through the internet (what a wonderful invention), but have come to several brick walls on most branches. In time I shall post new threads on the appropriate forum.

Thx

Gareth
