Hi all,
Does anyone have the surname Ridge in their family from the Heage area of Derbyshire?
The reason Im asking is that recently I sent for a marriage cert of Joseph Cutler who married Elizabeth Rhodes in Selston Notts in 1839.
I was looking to make further links with my family of Cutlers, however on the marriage cert Josephs father is listed as David Ridge.
I have found a David Ridge in 1841 living in Elton Notts
Ann Ridge 20
David Ridge 45
Elizabeth Ridge 45
Emma Ridge 8
George Ridge 11
Mary Ridge 13
Sarah Ridge 15
Thomas Ridge 20
and 1851 etc
David Ridge 55 b Heage Farmer
Elizabeth Ridge 56
Mary Ridge 20
Sarah Ridge 24
Now I cannot find any mention of Joseph Ridge/Cutler although I realise that he was married prior to the 1841 census.
He is listed as a minor on his marriage cert making his possible birth abt 1819,
I think this is him 1851,
Charlotte Cutler 9
Elizabeth Cutler 33
Joseph Cutler 32
Anyone have any ideas why the name change?
I have seen two surnames used before but not one being substituted for the other??
Many Thanks
Paul
