Hi
I have been interested in my family history for years since my grandmother and her sister used to fascinate me with stories of their growing up in the Old Kent Road area of south London. She gave me lots of clues where to look...and lots of false leads too.
I suppose I started the hunt properly when I was stuck in hospital awaiting the birth of my 2nd daughter (and she’s 25 now). In those days the IHGS at Canterbury was one of the few places to have the IGI and they would post out photocopies for one first class stamp for the first A4 sheets, and a second-class stamp for subsequent pages of the same surname and county. I still have all the lovely fading grey sheets I sent for in a ring binder.
I must admit to having two Family History software programs still sitting in their boxes. Most of my research was done BC (before computers) and as I use a computer all day at work I doubt if my files will go digital until I retire. I do have quite a lot of data on genesreunited, which I’m told I may be able to down load back to a computer software package – but I’m not quite ready to face that task yet. I’m quite happy while I have technical support at work but once I’m on my own at home computers seem to bite back.
Today’s access to this site was to see if anyone else was suffering the same frustration I was having with a well know website to which I have subscribed for a number of years. Yes I did find it mentioned in the moans and groans and after adding my moan I then found the funnies and had a chuckle or two ….which I always prefer to do!
