Hi
I have been researching my family tree for about 5 years now. I have done quite wello on my mothers side who were all from Leeds and Lincolnshire but my father's side is the one giving me grief. He was born in 1947 in County Durham but was adopted at 6m old - I have been trying to find his birth mother's name just for completion I would never contact them - water and bridges so have concentrated on his adoptive family - only they are just as complicated as my grandmother;s parents died the year she was born and my grandfather would never reveal much about himself.

His surname was lightfoot and he was born in Esh Winning to coal miners in 1914. However I seem to lose him between 1914 and 1940 (his marriage year) in which he appears in South shields - apparently he joined the army to avoid being a miner.

The puzzling thing is on the marriage certificate his address is simply listed as St Michael and All Angels which is the parish church in Westoe South Shields - can anyone think of any reason why he wouldn't have a proper address listed?
Anyway the names I am researching are:-
County Durham - Lightfoot and Hall
South Shields - Lightfoot, Henry, Humphrey, Robinson.

Also another question does anyone know what Imeary Street in South Shields was like during the war (2nd) - my grandmother was taken in by her aunty who had married a family called the Robinsons and they apparently had a shop there and I would like to find out about them.
sorry for the long winded introduction.
Lou
