LAMBERT - BRADFORD, YORKSHIRE

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi everyone, im new to genealogy, and have spent hours on search engines, where I have some great info from others family trees.

MY great grandfather was Frank lambert Born 1873 (New Zealand) and died NZ 1958. Marton Taranaki region.

He came from Isaac Lambert, born either 1826 or 1834, Bradford Yorkshire, and married to Rebecca Wilson, they emigrated to NZ in 1858 with Edward 1851, William 1853, and Annie 1856. Rebecca died in 1863, I cannot find where she is buried in New Zealand, I can find no record of Isaac or Rebecca in any census in ENgland, but have found matching marriage records.

After rebecca died, Issac married Flora Smith in New Zealand, she was from Gigha in Scotland, she would be my great great grandmother. They had Frank Lambert, and thats about all I can find out. My Grandfather was Alexander George Leslie Lambert, his parents Frank Lambert mentioned above, and Wilhelmina Jane Laurent. Any info more than gratefully received. Thank you Jenny Lamberton, (yes I married a Lamberton) Ayreshire Scotland Lambertons, and they have an exccellent family history. I would like to do the same for the my Lambert side.

Welcome to the forum Jenny.
You will find many very helpful people here.
Don't forget to check out family history web sites in New Zealand which offer advice on how to research your family history from downunder.

The best advice that I can give is to find out all possible information available in New Zealand before looking overseas. It can make it easier to have all the facts. You have a large age difference there.

When you are ready just post your queries on the relevant board.

Will Isaac's second marriage, in NZ, record both his parents names?

Thanks, I have managed to locate a matching bride and groom index, so will send off for a birth certificate. This will be exciting as it will have my answers. I have found out that Rebecca Lambert (nee Wilson) died in 1863 in Christchurch CBY New Zealand, but still cannot for the life of me find her in a cemetry, thats whats frustrating me at the moment. Thank you for your interest

Thank you Pam. I have not had time to order marriage cert yet, keep forgetting in the daylight hours. But have narrowed birth year to 1826-1827 as when he immgrated in 1858 to New Zealand, he was a 32 yr Carpenter with his wife Rebecca and their three children on the passenger list. With this info I found an Isaac Lambert born c.1827, Joiner aged 24 born manningham, Yorkshire in an 1851 census, but can't find that in the free bmd census. Funny isn't it, I can chase this new lead for 6 months, or just make sure I order a marriage cert, and then I will have his parents. Yeah, I'll make a diary note now for Monday. Thank you, this forum makes you think about what you need to do.

Hello Jenny,

I'm interested in your Flora SMITH from Gigha. Do you know anything more about her? My gg Grandparents Peter & Margaret MUIR (nee SMITH) arrived in Christchurch around 1862/3 with 3 children. I'm told that they had Margaret's sister Flora with them, though I haven't yet verified this for myself. Peter & Margaret were married in Ardmeanish, Gigha in 1857.

Mary.

Hi, I have a little info,

Flora Lambert's parents were Archibald Smith and Flora MacNeill who lived on a small Island off the west coast of Scotland called Gigha where Flora (jnr.) was born.

She married Isaac Lambert in Christchurch Nz in 1865. I know they had Frank Lambert, my Great Grandfather, and perhaps a Harry (Harold), I dont know. I would love to know how many kids they had, and who they are, and there birth dates.

Theres an exccellent site called pastpapers, theres a Flora Smith mentioned several times, I haven't looked at dates ect yet to work out if she's my one. But its quite a scandal and looked well worth researching when there is time.

Hope all this helps. I have been very disappointed I ordered the marriage cert, but because its so old, they did not have parents of Isaac Floras husband mentioned. Luckily a fellow researcher Bruce Lambert gave me some info. This is my next hunting session. All and any info on Edward Lambert, whom must have been born around 1790 and Sarah Cowgill. Hope I can help, I would love your info as well, just to add to Floras side of the tree. Thanks Jenny Lamberton

Thanks. We are indeed talking about the same family - and yes, Barbara's a distant cousin. I'm happy to share any information I have from Gigha though sadly I can't help with Isaac. I have a similar problem with my g grandfather's family - there's no information to use to go back and find his family's country of origin with. I'll send you a PM later today.

Mary.
