The General Register Office (GRO) index of deaths records the death of an Augustus POOLE in Basford district in the December quarter of 1905. You can order a copy of the death certificate - do you have any other information to confirm he died about 1905?

His service record should be held at The National Archives in Kew, London.

The medal roll for the Crimea may confirm that he fought there with the 12th Lancers.

Your chap may possibly be shown in the 1841 census in Radford, Nottinghamshire - see HO107/860/5 f40 p7
The household consisted of Joseph POOLE, aged 45, lace seller, not born in county - also Harriot aged 35, William and Thomas both 15, then several foreign born children, John 15, Alfred 13, Mary 12, Henry 11, Eliza 9, Augustus 8 and finally Charles aged 4 and born in Nottinghamshire.

In using the internet you will find that you do have to pay to obtain information on many web-sites.

There is an Augustus Poole on the Medal Rolls of the 12th Lancers with the entry on page 434 of the regimental medal rolls showing entitlement to a Crimean Medal. On page 448 of the same rolls it shows he was entitled to a Clasp for Sebastopol. Though the legibility is a bit questionable, it looks like his regimental number was 1355.
