I am interested in this name throughout North Derbyshire but especially in Whittington and Staveley. James Siddall who married Sarah Hadfield in Staveley in 1807 states on Census that he was born in Staveley, and age there and at death suggests a birth date c1786. The only baptism of a James is in 1790, son of Godfrey and Mary. Nowhere is there a possible marriage of Godfrey Siddall to a Mary. In Staveley and Whittington around that time there was Godfrey and Rebecca nee Hawkins, also Godfrey and Frances nee White, also Godfrey and Ann nee Barlow. There is a settlement examination of James Siddall stating that he had worked a year in the village for some shopkeeper (I think), but my James was always a miner on census and when his children were baptized or married.
His daughter Elizabeth married John Rodgers and they were my 2 gr grandparents.

BUT WHO WAS JAMES ????? Definitely I am |banghead| |banghead| |banghead| and have been for about fifteen years !!

I have a database of SIDDALL of about 700 entries if anyone cares to contact me by e-mail.

Eileen :)

to dsankey - sorry for the delay, but I have been away from home for some weeks. I have bought meat from the Eckington butchers, I live in the next village !!! They, and the former newsagents, descend from the same roots way back but there are very few early Siddall's in Eckington, I have examined the registers and BT's back to the mid 1500's when they began.

Thank you for responding but I ask again, WHO WAS JAMES ???

Cheers - Eileen
