View Full Version : The Park Farm Stoke Albany
Can anyone help?
John Smith was a Farmer on "The Park Farm" circa 1871, he had his sister Elizabeth (house keeper) and brother Robert (Annuitant) with him. I am trying to confirm that their parents were John and Mary Smith.
What is throwing me is that it is just that I cannot find out what happened to John and Mary Smith between 1841 and 1871.
Oh and is The Park Farm still around?
Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Hello RJO1,
Do you have the 1871 census reference or, failing that, approximate birth years and place of birth for these folk?
I have the dreaded "John Smiths" in my tree and they can be a nightmare to follow without a few more clues.
Thanks,

Found the son John in 1871 and 1881, both times living at Park Farm.
1871: they are the children of Elizabeth Smith, 67, head, widow, farmer of 215 acres employing 3 men and one boy.
Going back 10 years to 1861, Elizabeth is still recorded as a widow.
So, in 1851, the father is identified as Samuel, aged 52 and farmer of 300 acres.
Robert is recorded as an idiot in 1871 but as a lunatic in 1881. It's only in 1881 that he is recorded as an annuitant. Now, as the farm was fairly substantial, there may be a will that awards Robert the annuity, especially as Elizabeth has died by then.
So, are Samuel and Elizabeth the parents that you are looking for or are we looking for John and Mary Smith?

Well, it looks like it still exists, but not as a farm any more:
Park Farm
Desborough Road
Stoke Albany
MARKET HARBOROUGH
Leicstershire
It is currently occupied by a Joinery company. Will PM you other details.
Thanks for your help Jan1945 but I might very well be barking up the wrong tree. I was looking for John and Mary.
My Smiths are: 1841 John Smith 40 Groom
Mary Smith 35
Emma (b. 12 July 1831 Lowestoft) Married John Hufton
John (b. 4 July 1833 Lowestoft)
Elizabeth 5
Robert 3
Sarah 9months
Thought it was a coincidence having John, Robert, and Elizabeth living on the farm together.
Does this make any sense to you?
