I have a relative - JOHN KEELEY born 1896 Hulme,Manchester,Lancashire- who left home ( as the story goes) to 'better himself' as a Chemist in London.
He called in to the family home once in the 1930's and was never in contact again.
What I'm wondering is , would there be records of when and where people qualified back then ,or practised, and if so how would I access it?

Thanks

If he was a Pharmaceutical chemist, making or dispensing medicines and drugs, then he should have registered with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. Go to http://www.rpsgb.org/informationresources/museum/services/ and read the section about their special research service.
Alternatively you may find copies of the society's handbooks in main reference libraries.

Thanks- I have contacted them and they are able to do a search for me!
Let's hope he did manage to become a pharmacist!;)
