This photo is of Sydney/Sidney John Turner, b. 1871 Lambeth, Surrey and d. 1951, Southampton, Hampshire. He was my grandmother's brother and I know very little else about him. Based on his age, I'm guessing Boer War. Would appreciate any tips on the uniform, etc... I've checked the links posted here, but I'm afraid I don't have enough information to go further.

Hi,
Me again
I tried to zoom in on the arm adornment, looks like cross rifles which means he was a qualified marksman,

Chris -
Thank you for the tips. I googled the Royal Artillery and didn't spot a match of the uniform. It would interesting to find out more about the marksman designation. He would have been around 30 during the Boer War - seems a little old unless he was a career military guy?!?!

From the background it looks a tropical background. India ???? Is the photographers name on the back of the picture. That can help loads as to Garrisons etc. The pciture looks early 1900's. There is no ribbon bar indicating any Boer War service !!! This guy has marksman stripes and corporal stripes too. Classic image.
