Hi Folks,
Although I've been searching for about a decade now I still haven't found much on my MEACHIN family which has been very frustrating! Lots about POSTLES nowt about MEACHIN!
So here's my maternal half:
My gran Florence Ann MEACHIN (b 1900) m Harold IRELAND in the Wesleyan Chapel, London Rd, Northwich June 1927
Gran's parents were: John Samuel MEACHIN + Mary Ann POSTLES m in Witton, Northwich in July 1895.
Gran's siblings were:
Thomas Sidney MEACHIN b. 1898 Northwich d. 1970
Margaret Dennett MEACHIN b. 1896 d. 1906
Fred MEACHIN b. 1899 d. aged 5 months
Samuel Edward MEACHIN b. 1903 d. aged 3 months

So really I'm trying to connect with J S MEACHIN (b. 1874) & his siblings who were all born in Northwich:
Thomas b. 1860
George William b. 1861
Sarah Ann b. 1865
Mary Elizabeth b. 1868 m Alfred WILKINSON in 1889
Edward b. 1870 d. 1890
Ernest b. 1877 d. 1879
Ernest b. ? Witness on Sarah Ann's death cert in 1923

Any help gratefully received.|hug|
Regards,
Val

I also have connections with APPLETON (the builder in Northwich), BATTERSBY, DENNETT, HOLLAND, WILKINSON, WRENCH in or near Northwich.

My Husband's great grandfather George Goodwill adopted Mary Meachin, a niece, daughter of Mary nee Denton wife of Thomas Meachin m 1882. Mary died in Childbirth in 1889. Tom died in March 1890 along with Florence a daughter, William possibly a brother . Tom died of TB I didn't follow up the rest of the family but assumed that that was the cause of death of all of them, after all they were not part of the family I was researching. The death certificate gives Ann Meachin mother Present at the death at 10 Dock Road Leftwich

This led me to the assumption that Thomas was the son of Thomas Meachin joiner on 1861 census, and was two years old at the time.

The children were split up after the death, and family lore has it that the two boys came to search for their sister when they were being taken abroad. Mary had believed that she was a Goodwill not a Meachin and the thinking was that it upset her. She never married but stayed near her adoptive parents until her death.

The 1861 census includes George and Sarah Wrench

Dear Goodwill,
Thank you for your posting.
After a long gap in my research I am now trying to piece together gaps in the Meachin clan. I was really interested to get your posting & am now attempting to draw a family tree to go with your information! ... I'm not good unless I have a huge piece of paper!
Can you tell who were Mary Denton's parents as this is information I haven't got?
Ann Meachin nee Wrench is the grandmother of my gran, Florence Ann Meachin.
Regards,
Val

Mary Denton's parents were Thomas Denton a Waterman on the River Weaver, he married Martha Fogg whose father was involved in salt mining. They lived in Witton near Northwich. Mary b 1860 Northwich Cheshire Ap-Ju 8a 242) was the second of seven girls. Jane ,my husband's great grandmother was the eldest. There were no sons. Thomas Meachin b 1860 m Jane 1882. She died in 1889 giving birth to Mary Meachin who was then 'adopted' by George and Jane Goodwill. Four members of the Meachin family follow each other on the pages of the Death Registration index in March 1890.
That is about all I found out as the relationship with the Meachins is rather tenuous
