Hi...
I really believe that I am computer challenged ,< grin, grin>...
For the life of me I cannot get the smileys to work in a posting, just the ones that are used in the title. Don't tell me ...I must have an American made computer that doesn't use English or Canadian English!! ( Sorry to any Americans reading this!)
I have tried inserting what I want between ( ) and { } and [ ] and even l l yet nothing seems to work. Help!!!! Please.

Hi there,
I had this problem earlier in the year and I'm in England!
Go into your user CP, click on Edit options, scroll down to the bottom of the page and make sure that it says "standard editor".
If that doesn't work, read the following thread:
http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22979&highlight=smilies
Good luck...

In your User CP, have a look at the Options. There should be a ticky box to allow you to use IMG code or something - that needs to be ticked.
If you can't find it, let me know and I shall give a more detailed reply - that was off the top of my head, so pretty vague!
Mark
Edit: Jans advice sounds much better than my twaddle!

When you have your *Reply* box open, do you see the smileys to the right of it?
You also need to look below the box - see below the blue header entitled "Additional Options" and make sure that "Disable smileys in text" is NOT checked.
Once the smileys are enabled, all you have to do is pick one - when you move your cursor over the smiley you want, it should show a *hand*, and then you just need to click and it should appear in your posting, alhtough it will appear in your box, while the box is still active, by its name - for example <vertical line>"banghead"<vertical line>. But you do not have to insert the lines, they come with the smiley name. Then click on Preview Post and you should see your smiley in the message that is ready to be submitted.

Hi Susan |wave|. We all have problems with the (*&^~! |computer| from time to time.
If you go to Reply to this, scroll the mage down and look for the "Additional Options" box. There should NOT be a check mark (tick for those in the U.K) in the "Disable smilies in text" box.
Other than that. As per a previous post, do you see a window full of smilies to the right of the box you are typing into .
Click on a smiley, the smiley page may take over your sscreen, just click on the box at the bottom of the screen that says something like "http:// british genealogy........." and the smiley window will vanish and your reply will be there. The smilies ony show in "Preview" or the actual Forum.

Okay...yes, my smileys are on.....
I shut my pop-up blocker off........ one of the suggestions that was in the reply that Jan had........
The only smileys I have are the ones for the title and they are below this box....there are none to the right.........
I can bring up the smiley infor mation page, just not the smileys when I reply....
Sorry Peter....I really am DENSE.... I can't find disable smilies in text in the Additional options.
GGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRR..............
Thanks everyone..maybe I'll print all your suggestions off and put them in front of me and see what I can do..right now, the impatient "other half" wants his supper....
I'll let you know what happens..

This could be it.
Select "User CP" on this screen ...... upper right side
Select "Edit Options"
Scroll down the screen to bottom and see "Miscellaneous Option"
at the bottom of this box select "Standard Editor Extra Formatting Controls"
Save Changes.
Should be OK now..
