Any decent software programs out there for a Mac without Windows please?
Thankyou x
Have you tried the Mac specific Google search engine?
http://www.google.com/mac.html
I gave it a go and there seem to be several programs which fit the bill - although a few needed Windows emulation type software. However, there were at least a couple on the first page of hits which were Mac compatible. I cannot vouch for them - I don't have a Mac, nor do I run Windows.

To do what with?
I use Reunion for family trees and cards and charts and all kinds of very cool stuff it does. It is very detailed and versatile and fun and thorough. It is only for Macintosh computers

You don't build a tree; you grow a tree. Or the tree grows itself. :) :)
Still, look up Reunion - it is WAY too much fun. And specifically for Macs. And available in Britain, too.

Try Geni on www.geni.com, this is a web based shareable tree maker which does not depend on any particular opsys.
Gramps is interesting too.
GenealogyJ from http://genj.sourceforge.net/wiki/doku.phpis is a java based tool so should work with a Mac, I use it with Linux.
all these tools are free

I've bought MacFamily Tree (Version 5) but not yet got around to installing it on my iBook G4 (OS 10.4.11). I have 768 MB DDR SDRAM, which may be a bit on the low side. The blurb says, "1024 MB is strongly recommended".
I'd be interested to hear from anyone who is using the above package ... especially anyone running it with less than the recommended 1024 MB.
Comments appreciated ...

I have Reunion and find it is fine for me. Many years ago I had Reunion when it was for Windows and enjoyed using it, now it is only for Mac.
Before buying, try the other free programs that Geoff3 has suggested and see if you can find someone to demonstrate Reunion before committing the hard earned 'readies'.As not one size fits all!

Thank for the note about Reunion.
Well, I've got MacFamily Tree (Version 5) now and am looking forward to trying it out. I'll report back with my findings, but it may be a while before I fire it up.
Thanks ...

I know this post is a few weeks old and you may well have made your choice by now but just thought i add a little just in case someone else asks the same question.
I use an iMac and a Macbook for both work and home, the kids have windows based Pc's but there always on Facebook or MSN so i searched around for suitable software to use on a mac and after testing a few the two i shortlisted were Reunion 9 and iFamily both worked very well both allowed for import and export of Gedcom files, However Reunion 9 wasn't a fully functional trial as a lot aren't.
I had initially began my tree on Ancestry.com and had compiled around a 120 names and didn't fancy re-listing it all again, I therefore created a Gedcom file imported it to both i got the best result with iFamily and i found the user interface easier to pick up than reunion as it seems a bit more Mac orientated than Reunion 9.
In the end i bought iFamily
1) I found it easy to use (but that my opinion always try it for yourself)
2) Price it cost me £26 GBP about $40 Au Reunion 9 would have cost me £80 GBP
3) iFamily includes life time updates after 12 months an update with Reunion 9 were chargeable
4) iFamily actually has its own forum for owners and you can post specific questions on problems your having and ask for tweeks and updates to be created for you
hope this helps someone :)
