Hi all |wave|,

I was out in the garden cleaning the pond pump and filter (not a nice job) and have ruined yet another Right hand rubber glove :(

Why don't the companies make a packet of just right or left hand gloves?

I have tried turning the left one inside out to wear on my right hand but it isn't the same :(

What I need is a Left handed person to swap their spare right hands with my left hands :) (size M) Any takers?

Helen

Sorry, I'm righthanded, too.

I hate it when the gloves get old and the rubber begins to perish and the fingers stick together. Otherwise, I wouldn't be without them - I hate washing up without gloves.

I have a dish-washer - Mr P :D

So do I - at least a Mr R and a machine, but if I have to wash up by hand I always use gloves.

I always go for the yellow ones - can't stand that bright pink. I also have a pair of thick black ones for nasty jobs. For gardening I use leather - I have several pairs in various states of decay.

I hate wearing rubber gloves. I must confess I have a dishwasher now (came with the new house) but I washed dishes for years without wearing gloves and found it a much worse job if I did wear them. Of course there are some jobs that do require gloves, so I have a pack of thin disposable gloves, which I have found work equally well on either hand. At least you can still feel what you are doing. I hate wearing gloves for gardening, but have a pair of thick canvas gloves for deaing with brambles etc. Mind you, I do go through a fair bit of hand cream after a day in the garden!

Have you tried using the disposable gloves - they are unihanded. I used to tell people to make sure they got a right and a left hand glove - they usually emptied half the box before they realised that all the gloves were the same.

Hi David

I do use the disposasble ones when I help my kids work on their motorbikes :)
I can't use them for washing up etc as they don't cover very far above the wrist, and they do make the hands sweat a wee bit more than the yellow ones.

If you look very close at the old Dr Who programs, the Cybermen wore Marigold gloves painted silver. I remeber my dad pointing it out to me, you could see the logo. They didn't seem so frighening after that. the Cybermen that is, not the gloves:D

Blimey Mike, who would have thought that a thread about rubber gloves on the Pet Hates Forum could correct an error in my knowledge of my own family!

My brother used to be an actor and I knew that he had taken part in Dr.Who while I was working abroad. For some reason I thought he had played a Cyberman (I was never much in to SciFi, was out of the country anyway and videos hadn't been invented) so I looked on the web to see if I could find a picture of a Cyberman in Marigolds to send to him. Turns out he wasn't a Cyberman at all, but played Gerrill in Genesis of the Daleks. I have ordered the DVD and will finally get to watch it over thirty years later. |biggrin|

While on the subject of protective gloves - does anyone have a spare falconry glove that I could borrow for the grooming of one Persian cat, aged 11? :D

It is very unlikely that you will get a left handed person who wears out the left hand only. It is part of being left handed the world is setup for right handed people to you just get used to using both hands!

Wooden boat builders always tried to employ left handed people I understand so that they could cut the curves on both side of the boats with hand tools.

Hmm.

|idea| What about the Left-Handed Shop? I'd forgotten about them... I bought a pair of left-handed scissors from them once - wonderful!

Various outlets are available from googling.

There still is a left-handed shop online - I bought some great gadgets & a t-shirt for my daughter & my friend's daughter last Christmas.

The logo on the T-shirt
"As the right hemisphere of the brain controls the left side of the body then only left-handers are in their right minds!"

In the states, we have some pretty heavy rubber gloves for nasty jobs, they're orange and have held up to my american pit bull terrier playing snatch the glove and run away.

I have a dishwasher, she's 16 years old :) But she uses the dish waster appliance.

I do quite a bit of gardening and love my soft leather gloves for that. They fair well with when washed too. Ironically, they are made in England.

Hi Sue,

I bought the same t-shirt for my daughter about 20 years ago from a shop called 'Anything Lefthanded' in London. I don't know if they still exist, but they had everything and it was mail order :)

That's the one, they have a website now & it's a real treasure trove.

Are they REAL marigolds or are they fabricated?
