I am looking for any information relating to David Reid and his wife Isabella Paterson they were married on the 24 MAY 1827 Saint Cuthberts, Midlothian, Scotland. Also looking for any information relating to Andrew Hamilton and his wife Janet Arthur, they were married on the 5 APR 1823 Mid Calder, Midlothian, Scotland.

Not sure what you might know about your Reids but a bit more info is necessary in order to positively ID them.

If David was a joiner and you know some names and ages of their children then it's possible this is the family from the 1851 Scottish census....

David Reid age 49, head, b. Mearns, St. Cyrus occupation: House Carpenter
Isabella Reid age 51, wife, b. Thurso, Caithness
James Reid age 21, son , b. Edinburgh, St. Cuthberts. occ: House Carpenter journeyman
David Reid age 18, son, b. Edinburgh, St. Cuthberts. occ: House Carpenter journeyman
Peter Reid age 14, son. b. Edinburgh, St Cuthberts, occ: House Carpenter journeyman


I first searched for a death using maiden name (Pat*son) and married name (Reid) of Isabella in the online Scottish records through ScotlandsPeople website. There was one who was a widow of a David who died in 1876. This led me to finding the census record stated above. If this is your Isabella her death record can be found indexed like so:

1876 REID ISABELLA PATERSON F 77 NEWINGTON EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN 685/05 0228

and a view of it can be downloaded from that website by purchasing a few credits. Alternatively an extract can be purchased direct from General Register Office Scotland if you require an official copy. Her death record will give you the names of her parents.

Thanks for the information JustJean and you are right that I should added more detail. I am a newbie and still get very nervous posting messages.


If it is at all possible I would like further information on who were the parents, other family members and possible occupations on the following people

David Reid born 1806 Edinburgh who married Isabella Paterson born roughly around the 1800s in Caithness and died in 1876 Newington.

Andrew Duncan Hamilton born in Saint Cuthberts Midlothian in 1798 and married in April 5 1823 Mid Calder Midlothian Janet Arthur who was born around 1802 in Mid Calder Midlothian.
