Hello all

In the course of my investigations, it appears that my maternal grandfather, in the 1901 census held the occupation 'confectioner/bread maker'. According to his marriage certificate (1904) his occupation was 'confectioner'. Also from that certificate, his father's occupation at the time was 'stoker at cocoa factory'. My maternal grandmother on the other hand, was listed in the 1901 census has being a 'Cocoa Packer (chocolate trade)'.

Seeing as how they lived in Bristol at this time, the only place I could think of where they might have all worked, is Fry's Chocolate. I believe Fry's was bought out by Cadbury's.

My question is this: Is it possible to obtain details of employee/payroll records from such an organisation, given that it no longer exists?

I would love to be able to show that both my grandparents 'met' at a chocolate factory!

Thanks

Clive

Bristol Record Office has the archives. There's something mentioned for staff but not for hands. You'll have to ask them because it may not have all been catalogued.
