We have all been through it. The email pops into your inbox "Family Connection for So and So"; great - someone else is researching the same name. All excited, you read the email, check out the data, and then send the reply "Sorry - No Connection".

I got one of these email's last week, got excited, checked the data, found a match, sent a positive reply. Turns out the individual who contacted me is directly related to the brother of my father's mother. We are both getting our trees up to date to establish ‘how many times removed we are’. I, in fact we, have both completed branches of our trees and filled in all sorts of holes that had been hanging around for years.

We are now putting a research plan together – divide and concur, cut out search duplication. Find the data and get the other individual to verify the findings. Magic.|woohoo|

The moral of the story is, never give up, after nearly 10 years of research I eventually struck lucky. Maybe it will be your turn next.

Isn't it fun! I had such a moment last week. Turns out he is my 2xgreat aunt's grandson and he has her bible! He is scanning the family pages to email me and I am so excited to see them! She was a rare one to be able to read and write.|jumphappy

That is great news - I agree that dividing and checking data when there are two dedicated people is a great idea :D. I am currently busy emailing my newly found 2nd cousin in my Parrish line, and we are chewing the fat over some of the family mysteries from the 1800s. It is nice to be able to share the passion with a blood relative! Oh, and my newly found 2nd cousin in my Smith line found me here at Brit-Gen :). Hi N if you're reading *waves*

I know just where you are coming from Bunty. I have been in contact with my female contact from across the pond and over the last week we have exchanged family related data. Already, it feels like I have known this individual for years. We have never met, not spoken on the phone, but have regular chat sessions over the net, like 1130 last night. The age difference is considerable, she is 28 and I am over 60, but we get on like a house on fire. Like you, I also think it is all down to the common link and the passion for the hunt.

She even sent me an email to say sorry because she was not providing the same volume of information I was. I just told her to sit back and enjoy it, her time will come, then the boot is on the other foot and we swap rolls.
