If you are a member of the Matson family you may like to know that a DNA project is underway to establish family links.
Surnames in Project:
Madison, Matheson, Mathew, Mathewson, Matson, Mattason, Matterson, Matteson, Mattieson, Mattison

Requirements:
A Surname Project traces members of a family that share a common surname. Since surnames are passed down from father to son like the Y-chromosome, this test is for males taking a Y-DNA test. Females do not carry their father's Y-DNA and acquire a new surname by way of marriage, so the tested individual must be a male that wants to check his direct paternal line (father's father's father's...) with a Y-DNA12, Y-DNA37, or Y-DNA67 marker test. Females who would like to check their direct paternal line can have a male relative with this surname order a Y-DNA test. Females can also order an mtDNA test for themselves such as the mtDNA or the mtDNAPlus test and participate in an mtDNA project.
If this sounds interesting then please contact the Matteson Group Administrator for more information.

I am a member of the Hurst DNA project and this is proving to be really interesting and worthwhile.

I have considered DNA, but am kinda worried that it may prove that my 20 years of research is all wrong.

Funnily enough the Hurst family project has recently turned up an anomaly between two branches which were thoroughly researched over some years.
We are now investigating where the fatherhood became changed to see if we can uncover an 'illicit' relationship!
All part of the interest and a good way of bringing the real past to life!
It doesn't necessarily mean the research is wrong, but may mean that someone was fathered by someone outside a marriage. There are always records of this happening and to identify such an event can bring in whole new links.
Don't worry - DNA can only assist.

Thats a relief, because family legend always said that some of my Aunts and Uncles were "very friendly to each other |blush|"

Does that mean you're going to join a DNA project?
