Would someone please be able to lookup Thomas GRAINGER b. c1780 and his wife Isabella Grainger b c1785 (nee SIMSON/SIMPSON) in 1841 Census for Kinross.
They were married 24 Jul 1808 in Kinross.

According to Ancestry there is an Isabella Granger, born Kinross abt 1776, living at "Avenue Gate" in the parish of Kinross with Thomas Granger (age 20).

Also at the same address are: Thomas Shana (20), Catherine Shana (20) and Alexander Shana (1 month).

Presumably Isabella is a widow but unfortunately I can't view the image to check the details (eg Thomas's age might really be 70 and have been transcribed wrongly as 20).

Hi there

indexed the same as Ancestry as GRANGER...

1841 GRANGER ISABELLA F 65 KINROSS /KINROSS 462/00 002/00 007

and for a few credits you can download the image if you think it might be your family. John is clearly age 20 but I suspect there may be no relationship to the other surname that Ancestry has them indexed with. There is yet another "family" at the same address with name of Beveridge.

There is of course no relationships stated in 1841 so no way to be certain she is a widow and John her son from this.

Best wishes

Hi Jean,

I don't think you can look at actual images of any Scottish censuses in A******y, can you ?

I'm not sure you can anywhere online, in fact ? I may be wrong.

You're absolutely correct you cannot view digital images of the Scottish census anywhere online except through Scotlands People website for a few credits fee......I guess I wasn't too clear on that! The indexing entry I provided is from there..... scotlands people

I didn't check FreeCen for them to see if that Parish was completed.......oftentimes that avenue has done a much better job on their transcriptions than Ancestry...and it's FREE!.

As for the new question from Gordon....who is John Gordon? I'm afraid I'm not following you..... What John Gordon? |help|

Best wishes

Thanks Jean,

Because your post mentioned Ancestry but not Scotlands People I didn't fall in.

I'm better educated now, because I didn't realise the images were online anywhere

As for the new question from Gordon....who is John Gordon? I'm afraid I'm not following you..... What John Gordon?

His question is actually "who is 'John'" - the Gordon is him "signing himself"

You mentioned John...

John is clearly age 20 but I suspect there may be no relationship to the other surname that Ancestry has them indexed with.

So I assume you have found a John in the census that Chris didn't ?

Hi Alan

Good grief |blush|...Thanks so much for explaining the obvious!!

Now that I realize what everyone is talking about I see that I've made a goof!! When viewing the census image I jotted down the names that all appear at that address but seem to be 3 separate family groups. I mentioned that one was BEVERIDGE. Well that part was correct anyway! That is where I grabbed the given name John from when I typed my response....a John Beveridge is there but not in the family group with Isabella and her son Thomas |blush| Sadly....there is no John Gordon! |blush|

Best wishes

Jean, thanks for your help and I really do appreciate it. To all others on this thread I similarly appreciate your clarifying comments. I must use English punctuation next time I make an enquiry, not Antipodean! Or was it the way these computers display our work?
Anyhow, I'll try and find a complete 1841 & 1851 Kinross Census to help me further identify my GRANGER/GRAINGER's and forget about our 'John', (N.B. comma). (N.B. Full Stop)!
Gordon

P.S. I really do appreciate all your help.
