Hello All

I have been trying for ages to find what happened to Betsey L Foxworthy b Paignton 1857. I have never found a birth registration for her although her siblings were registered. She appears in both the 1861 census (transcribed as Howsley but this has now been corrected), and the 1871 census where she was enumerated as Betsey L Fox. After that there is nothing. I have found a marriage for a Betsey L (Laskey, which was a family name) Foxworthy to a John Yebsley but this is another Betsey in my tree, born a couple of years later and registered in Kingsbridge. So where did my Betsey or Betsy go to? Any help appreciated. The Foxworthy family were centred around Blackawton in the early 1800's where they had a tailoring business.

Many thanks, Sue

Betsey Laskey Foxworthy born Blackawton married in 1882 I found her in 1891 with her family sadly she plus one of the children were dead by 1901, Both surviving children died after 1901 but I could not find them or their father in the 1901 census.

Betsey L Foxworthy born in Paignton I believe also has the middle name of Laskey. On the two censuses I found her on the "L" was also included and was carried by other family members particularly the Betsey's of whom I have three. Which census did you find Bessie? she sounds as though she is part of the family and I do not have a Bessie in my tree.

Hi

I have just found Bessie Foxworthy in the 1881 census. She is the Betsey born in Blackawton abt 1860. My other Betsey was abt three years older. In the 1871 census she is down as Betsey L Fox and is a servant in Winner Street, Paignton.

There is this GRO birth record that is surely your Betsey:
Betsy Laskey Foxworthy
1859 / Q4 / Kingsbridge / vol 5b / p. 199

Hi

I think that that registration belongs to the Betsey born in Blackawton. The one born in Paignton should have been registered in Totnes about 1857. She had a sister called Georgina born abt 1854 and a sister Ellen born in 1859.

Isn't it strange that some familes for the most part do the right thing but it's always the one you are particularly looking for that records are hard to find.
