Hello i am having problems tracing back my great gran mothers family, and wondered if someone may be able to look up census for her family for me. Please.
I know this must seem a cheeky request, but being new to family history, i am stumped on this one, and having real trouble tracing it back.
The only details i have of mary i have writen below, and also the details of the 1901 census.
Mary long was born in1894 in Lambeth London. in september 1914 mary married hubert fenn at reading.
After Hubert’s death in 1951, Mary remarried Thomas H Poecock in September 1953.
Mary died in September 1961, Aged 67 at Reading Berks.
this is details of the census from 1901 Wandsworth district.
Which lists the father as edward long Age 39 fishmonger
Wife Rebecca Age 35
then 7 children
Oledset child name eligabe to read aged 18
william age 16
james 13
Adam 11
mary 6?
Thomas 6
and Baby un named.
Thank you very much for your help
Kind regards
Alison.

Alison, the 1901 family should read...
Edward Long Age 39
Rebecca Age 35
Edward Age 18(i.e. same as dad)
William Age 16
James Age 13
John Age 11 (not Adam)
Mary Age 7 (not 6)
Thomas Age 6
Baby Age under 2 months.
Edward is a Fishmongers assistant, (worker) rather than fishmonger
Class: RG13; Piece: 469; Folio: 123; Page: 37
Do you have Mary's birth certificate, please ?
That should show both her father's name and occupation, but also her mother's name, and (vitally, if you do not know it), her mother's maiden name.
If you do have the certificate, please post the details. If you don't we need to try and locate her birth registration, so as you can order it up.
Best wishes,
Alan

1891 Census, RG12, piece 397, folio 93, page 37
Edward Long, head, 30, fishmongers manager, born London, Southwark
Mary do, wife, 29, Somerset, Bristol
Edward do, son, 8, scholar, London, Lambeth
William do, son, 6, scholar, do do
Frederick do, son, 4, scholar, do do
James do, son, 3, do do
John do, son do do
It would appear Mary died after 1891 and Edward remarried Rebecca. There is a marriage on freebMD 1898, Mar, Lambeth, 1d, 576 that might be the one. If so then Mary would be the mother of Mary who was born 1894.
Hope this helps,
John

I like that 1881 census entry!
Isn't it nice when extended families are all found together - it makes like so much easier!

Thank you very much for your help. The second marriage would explain why i could not trace Rebecca with edward before 1901.
Kind Regards
Alison.
