Hi
i have a real puzzle on my hands, it may take a while to xplain so please be patient, My uncle EDWARD SALMON, was, i am told born July 1st 1904,
and as the story goes he was born Colchester where his father( Edward Albert Salmon) was stationed in the army, but there are no records of this birth, i have paid for a search through the G.R.O. and they can find no record for any time that year or the preceding or following year, the only EDWARD SALMON birth recorded on that date in 1904 was in SUNDERLAND, BUT THE FATHERS NAME WAS DAVID. MOTHERS NAME AGNES SALMON.
EDWARD ALBERT IS THE NAME SHOWN ON HIS MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE AS HIS FATHER HIS OCCUPATION WAS AN ELECTRICIAN AND AT THE TIME OF MY UNCLES MARRIAGE (1930) HE WAS DECEASED.
At the time of his marriage he was a corporal stationed at CATTERICK barracks in the royal scPOSThool of signals in the kings regiment. and at Lichfield barracks,
I THIS INFORMATION IN THE WILD HOPE SOME ONE MAY RECOGNISE SOME OF THE DETAILS.
Regards
Liam

P.s. he lived inliverpool from abt 1915 to 1930

Did Edward have any brothers and sisters? In the 1901 census there is this family living in Fulwell in the Durham/Sunderland area:
David, 37
Agnes, 30
Annie, 6
George, 4
Alfred, 4 months

If these children match your known ancestors then I would conclude that David and Agnes are indeed the correct parents, and therefore there must be another explanation for the Edward Albert Salmon.

I checked the GRO records too and there is an Edward Salmon born 1904, Q3, Sunderland.

Dates of birth - and in particular the year - often get wrongly recorded and handed down through family.

Having run through the 1903-5 GRO index of births, there are at least 20 SALMON entries which include a forename Edward - and that's without checking variants - SALMOND, SALMONS, SAMMON, etc

If Edward was an Uncle - was Edward Albert in your direct line back, or an uncle by marriage? Do you have his service record?

Thank you for your reply,
in answer to what relation was Edward Albert he was my uncle Edwards father so my great uncle, unfortunatly he did not have much to say about his family in fact i can't remember him discussing them at all we don't even know his mothers christian name so you can see what a dilemma i am in.
yes there are several salmons born around 1904 but only 1 Edward and his birth was in sunderland so i sent for that birth certificate and by an amazing coincidence the birth date for EDWARD WAS 01/07/1904, but his father is shown as David, but on his marriage certificate his father is shown as Edward Albert,
a bit of a puzzle to say the least, thanks again for responding
